Corrections In this series of works- I've adapted Ronan Barrot's process of "Correcting paintings" - a process which I observed in his studio; and which he enacted on my generated images throughout our confrontation / collaboration. In his studio; when he was painting a work of his own and he was unsatisfied with some parts of it, he would cover up the offending parts with bright orange paint and then fill them back in (to, in his words, "correct" those areas). During our collaboration together he would also correct some of the generated skulls I presented by painting directly over the parts he didn't like. These changes were never minor; though- he would keep correcting until there was an entirely new image. I'm teaching a neural network to do a very similar thing. Trained to reconstruct obscured parts of nude portraits- the network is run on chunks of paintings over and over again until a new image emerges. Click the images below to enlarge! |
